The L64853 SBus DMA Controller provides a complete interface for SBusperipheral subsystems. It provides two independent DMA channels, a 16-bitchannel, and an 18-bit channel for use in applications requiring slavesor masters. The L64853, implemented in a 1.5 micron CMOS process andmanufactured by LSI Logic Corporation, is packaged in an expensive, 120pin PQFP.The L64853 is programmable. Programs running on the system CPU may setparameters that govern the transfers performed by the L64853 and alsoread the current status of the chip. This programming is achieved bywriting and reading internal registers on the L64853 (and also on the twoperipheral controllers). In order to permit this writing and reading theL64853 can become an SBus slave when the CPU asserts the Slave Selectsignal specific to the L64853. While acting as an Sbus slave, the L64853can also be used by the CPU as a conduit to the two peripheral controllerchips, thus allowing the CPU to program them.
